Character

The Greyhound is an ancient breed that was used long ago to hunt deer and other game. He gets along reasonably well with other dogs, but other pets, such as birds, rabbits and cats, are a problem. When they grow up with a domestic cat as a puppy, a friendship is possible. Greyhounds are always friendly towards people. He is also sweet, gentle and reliable towards children. Greyhounds are intelligent and affectionate. They bond quickly with family members but are not watchful and rarely bark.

Appearance

Greyhouns have a graceful and elegant appearance. The height at the withers of the male and female of a Greyhound is 71 to 76 cm and 68 to 71 cm respectively. The Greyhound has a short, sleek coat. Common coat colors in Greyhounds are black, red, fawn, blue, with or without brindle with white.

The Greyhound is the fastest dog in the world and is therefore often used in dog racing. He is incredibly manoeuvrable. This sensitive dog certainly benefits from dog training and needs to be educated consistently. To keep him fit and happy he needs a lot of exercise. Long walks are necessary to keep him active and healthy. It is best to keep him on a leash or let him run around within a sturdy fence. At least an average sized yard is a must for this breed. A Greyhound’s coat does not require much maintenance. His hair should be shiny but firm and hard, not silky smooth. His coat is somewhat resistant to harsh weather so washing is not often necessary. Greyhounds live an average of 10 to 12 years old.
