Character

Yorkshire Terriers have long been popular dogs because of their child-friendliness and their suitability as apartment dogs. This feisty, loving companion is extremely devoted to its owner. He can even be possessive and jealous of a new pet. A Yorkie is playfully not afraid of larger dogs and can therefore sometimes be a bit overconfident in his confrontations with them. He is watchful but without barking all the time.

Appearance

A Yorkshire Terrier has an elegant appearance. The endearingly compact size in combination with the typical terrier traits make him a popular pedigree dog. A Yorkie grows to a maximum height of 23 cm and usually weighs between 2.5 and 3.5 kg. Its long, soft coat usually bears gray or golden brown tones. As puppies, these dogs have more black hair, but these become lighter as they grow up.

Other particulars

Yorkies are ideal for apartment keeping due to their size and the fact that they rarely cause noise pollution. They are easy to raise as long as you stay consistent. They do need some exercise but because they are naturally active, short walks are often sufficient. It is important to protect these dogs well against cold and hot temperatures and not to spoil them too much. Good eye, ear and dental hygiene is also important for a Yorkshire Terrier. When properly cared for, this roguish playmate can live to be 12-15 years old.
