The Italian Cane Corso is a loyal companion for hunters and farmers. They admire him for his power, courage and speed. These balanced dogs are hard workers with a protective nature. They get along well with children, but they are suspicious of strangers until their owner says it’s okay. They can live in peace with cats and other dogs. Still, you should be careful with small pets because of the Cane Corso’s hunting instinct. These intrepid dogs can bark briskly, but only when necessary. With the right education it is a wonderful family dog.
Cane Corsos have a powerful and sturdy appearance. They have a short, smooth coat that is wiry to the touch. Common coat colors are black, blue and various yellows and reds. The males can reach a shoulder height of 64 to 68 cm and the bitches 60 to 64 cm. The weight for the males is around 45 to 50 kg and for the females around 40 to 45 kg.
This dedicated family protector loves hard work and is still used today by farms and hunters. It only sheds lightly, so an occasional brushing or combing should suffice. The Cane Corso needs a lot of space to run because it is originally a hunter of big game, such as boars. He can reach an age of 9 to 12 years.
