A Bordeaux Dog or French Mastiff is a sweet, quiet French breed dog with a balanced character. This affectionate dog has a heart for the whole family. He has a healthy and natural distrust of strangers. So he is an excellent watchman and protector. Yet he is not a barker and he only lets himself be heard when it is really necessary. He has a lot of respect for his owner but also a strong will of his own.
Bordeaux Dogs have an athletic body. Their backs are broad and strong and their shoulders protrude. They are notable for their imposing, wrinkled head and small hanging ears. Their nose is close to their eyes. On average, these impressive dogs grow to a height of 60 cm and weigh 48 kg. They have a fine, short and silky coat. Common colors are wild color and mahogany red. They can wear a black, brown or red mask. Sometimes small white spots appear on their chest and feet as well.
Especially during the moulting period, Bordeaux Dogs or French Mastiffs should be brushed often, preferably with a rubber brush. It’s also important to clean their facial folds regularly. The Bordeaux Dog does not need a lot of exercise, but finds it more important to get a lot of attention. Nevertheless, it is recommended to stimulate him to move. By nature, these dogs have a typical ‘laissez faire’ attitude and can be quite lazy. They usually live to be 8 to 10 years old.
