A Pomeranian or Pomeranian, also known as’ dwarf ‘, is a popular, compact and active companion dog. This cute, spunky, furry dog is very loyal to his family. It thrives in the company of other pets and children. This cheerful, playful and intelligent human friend is watchful and courageous. Sometimes Pomeranians are even a bit ‘overconfident’ when they come across a larger dog. They also have a lot of personality. They are mischievous but neither shy nor aggressive. Due to their great empathy and intuition, they are often used as therapy dogs.
Dwarfs have beautiful dark almond-shaped eyes, a wedge-shaped head and pointed, hairy ears. Their coat consists of a long outer coat and a shorter, soft and fluffy undercoat. This coat and their curly bushy tail can take on different colors. Sometimes different shades are combined: black, brown, white, cream, red, … The Pomeranian or Pomeranian measures between 25 and 38 cm. Although he has a steep back, his back is quite short.
Despite their small size, Pomeranians have a loud bark and make excellent watchdogs. They are easy to train in terms of obedience and agility. A Keeshond or Pomeranian is most delighted when allowed to participate in family activities. He likes a nice walk, playing with a ball, rope or Frisbee. If you leave Pomeranians alone for a long time, they will get bored. Yet they are first-rate apartment residents. A daily brushing is not an unnecessary luxury for these dogs, but never cut the hair before summer starts or they will lose their natural insulating layer against the sun and heat. You only have to wash them when it is really necessary. Poms easily live to be 13 to 14 years old.
