A Japanese Spaniel or Japanese Chin is a happy little four-legged friend. His uncomplicated, engaging nature makes him a real cuddly dog. Japanese Spaniels like to snuggle close to their owners and like to be in the spotlight. They get along very well with peers and children. They are loyal and loving. Perhaps surprisingly, they are quite independent yet obedient.
Japanese Chins are beautiful little dogs. They have a shoulder height of 20 to 25 cm. The males can usually be a bit bigger. In adulthood they weigh about as much as a newborn baby: around 3 kg. The long, thick, silky coat is usually black in color with white areas. There are also white with reddish surfaces, but these are less common. What is special about this sweetheart’s coat is that it does not or hardly tangle.
The Japanese Spaniel is very sweet and barks little. A short walk or daily play session is enough to keep him healthy and active. Of course you have to be careful with rough play and large dogs. This little dog is no match for that. Japanese Chins shed on average. Their coat requires a special combing and brushing technique that any professional dog groomer can show you. You only wash it when it is really necessary, but it is best to clean the eyes and ears daily. Also be aware of extremely cold or warm outside temperatures. If you give this long-haired sweetheart a lot of love and attention, you can enjoy his company for about 12 to 14 years.
