The Petit Brabançon or Kleine Brabander is also sometimes used Belgian Griffon or Brussels Griffon mentioned. It is a small Belgian dog breed that gets along great with children, other dogs and even cats. Aggression is totally alien to them. A Petit Brabançon is cheerful, balanced and proud. He is also watchful, curious and alert. These dogs are remarkably eager to learn and intelligent. They are quite affectionate so they don’t like to be left alone. Many of them follow their owners closely everywhere.
This purebred dog from Belgium is characterized by its relatively large head, compact, angular physique and a short, smooth and shiny coat. The coat colors that often occur are solid red or black, black mixed with (red) brown and black with fire (‘black and tan’). He wears a black mask around his eyes and muzzle. With its large, dark eyes and nose at the same height, small semi-erect ears and high-lifted tail, this dog is both cute and elegant. The shoulder height is usually around 28 cm and the weight of this little dog is around 5 kg.
You have to comb a Kleine Brabander daily with a coarse brush. He sheds in blocks. This means that the hairs as soon as the coat is ripe in clumps. You can easily pick these during the moulting period. A Petit Brabançon is certainly suitable for dog training. It can live for about 12 to 15 years.
