The Pekingese or Pekingese is a small Chinese purebred dog with a quirky but sensitive character. Pekingese are quiet dogs. They bark very rarely. They are very affectionate and devoted to their owner and generally have no problem with other dogs. They can be a bit aloof towards strangers.
Pekingese are about 20 cm high and weigh between 4 and 5.5 kg. Females often even weigh a little more. These dogs are long-haired and have a soft, colorful coat. The colors vary between shades of gray, yellow and red. You can recognize a Pekingese by his black mask and black hair tips.
A Pekingese has a double coat, which means it sheds on average. By brushing his hair daily you avoid knots, tangles and mats. This companion dog’s stoic temperament doesn’t make him the easiest of creatures to train. But a gentle, consistent and patient approach often turns out to be very efficient. A few short walks and play sessions will ensure this little furry dog gets plenty of exercise. A Pekinese of good parentage can easily live to be 12 to 13 years old.
