The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a very charming dog. They are a gentle, friendly, and affectionate breed. This loyal, sporty dog loves to be close to his owner and get his full attention. As social dogs, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are normally intelligent and obedient. They can adapt very well. Although they like to be heard when visitors come, they are friendly and get along well with children. They are not very watchful or nervous but very stable in nature.
There are no guidelines for this breed that determine the breed standard. An adult dog does measure about 35 cm and the weight of the Cavalier King Charles is between 5 and 8 kg. With its long, silky coat without curls, this is a strikingly elegant dog. The colors are varied. You have black or black and white with brown markings. But there are also white with brown markings and a diamond-shaped spot between the ears (Blenheim). The ‘ruby’ variety, even deep red, is also very beautiful.
To keep the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel’s hair loss to a minimum, brush it regularly. Good hygiene of his eyes and ears is also very important. This breed needs to be well protected from extreme heat and cold. The life expectancy of this dog is about 10 years.
