The characteristics of a Miniature Poodle are largely similar to those of a Medium Poodle or King Poodle. These little rascals can be quite loud and mobile and are therefore less easy to combine with small children. There is no problem with calm children who handle their poodle responsibly. Poodles are very intelligent, sweet and loyal. They are alert and watchful but not typical watchers. They are especially known for their sense of socializing. There are many prejudices that the Miniature Poodle would be a ‘granny dog’ that prefers to sit on your lap all day long. But he actually enjoys nature and likes to go out. His personality goes well with many different types of canine friends.
The shoulder height of a Miniature Poodle is between 28 and 35 cm. Most poodles have a frizzy coat of one uniform color. Common colors are white, beige, apricot, brown and black. In addition to the frizzy coat with its fine, woolly structure, you also have the cord coat that is less common. The hair hangs down in tangled cords of at least 20 cm.
Due to their small stature, Miniature Poodles thrive in apartments and condos. Still, it is important to take regular short walks with your curly companion. Furthermore, poodles do require some maintenance. Most owners take their poodle to a professional groomer every 3 to 8 weeks, but you can also do this yourself. Daily brushing prevents the coat from tangling. Good ear and dental hygiene is also important to avoid inflammation. Poodles may show typical brown spots around the eyes from tears. Fortunately, you can avoid them by regularly cleaning their eyes with a lotion. A well-groomed Poodle will live to be about 12 to 15 years old.
