The Shiba Inu is a rare old Japanese breed. Its name means ‘little dog’. This is therefore the smallest hunting dog of the Japanese breeds. A Shiba Inu is cheerful and curious by nature. He has an alert, watchful nature. In general, the Shiba gets along well with other dogs. Visitors also receive a warm welcome from him. Shibas get along great with children. Their calm and thoughtful disposition and balanced temperament make them attractive family dogs.
The cute face of the Shiba Inu immediately appeals. The crowning glory of his charming appearance is his beautiful coat. He has a dense undercoat. The outer coat is straight and harsh and comes in different colors. You have red, black and white. Sesame is also popular. There is also red sesame, black sesame and ‘black and tan’. The coat absorbs little dirt and therefore requires relatively little care. The shoulder height of this beautiful animal is 40 cm in the males and 37 cm in the females.
During the shedding period, this dog sheds quite a bit of hair. His independent character requires a varied way of training. Interrupt exercises regularly with some free play moments and you have the Shiba Inu completely on board. These dogs usually live to be 12 to 13 years old, but they can also reach the age of 16.
